Mission

The mission of YouthBuild Elizabeth is to create a conducive learning environment that prioritizes the best interests of each participant. We are committed to providing comprehensive services that support the maximization of their full potential. Through personalized education, mentorship, and community engagement, we empower young adults to overcome challenges and build a foundation for lifelong success.

Vision

At YouthBuild Elizabeth, our vision is to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for young adults. We envision a future where every participant not only achieves academic success but also develops into well-rounded individuals who positively impact their communities. We aspire to be a model program that sets the standard for holistic education, fostering leaders who contribute meaningfully to a diverse and interconnected world.

  • Principle: Leadership development at YouthBuild emphasizes respectful leadership. Leaders are taught to lead by example, treating others with dignity and fostering a culture of mutual respect. Effective instructors’ model and instill these values in their teaching approach.

  • Principle: YouthBuild is committed to fostering holistic empowerment. Education extends beyond the classroom, incorporating elements of career, creative, digital, emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual wellness to ensure participants are well-prepared for post-secondary opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

A YouthBuild Elizabeth student needs to have:

  • Have a social security card
  • Provide a Birth Certificate
  • Have High School Transcripts (if applicable)
  • Provide proof of address
  • Have a current NJ Driver’s License or ID, Elizabeth Municipal County ID, or passport
  • Be between ages 16 and 24 at program entry
  • Complete Mental Toughness

The U.S. Department of Labor funds $1,500,000 (80%) and the other $380,600 (20%) is funded through non-Federal resources.
